Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is safe after a car rammed his motorcade in Kyiv, his spokesman Serhii Nykyforov said on social media early Thursday morning.
Zelensky was returning to the capital after a surprise visit to Izyum, a key town recaptured during the recent Ukrainian counteroffensive. Nykyforov said he suffered no “serious injuries”.
“A car collided with the president’s car and his escort vehicles in Kyiv,” Zelenskyy’s spokesman said. “The president was examined by a doctor, no serious damage was detected.” Doctors accompanying Zelenskyy provided emergency assistance to the driver of the car, before transferring him to an ambulance.
Nykyforov did not specify when the accident took place.
“All circumstances of the accident will be investigated by law enforcement,” Nykyforov concluded, without speculating on the cause of the accident.
Zelenskyy posted his daily video address shortly after Nykyforov’s post, but did not mention the incident.
