WWE star AJ Styles names five favorite opponents, including John Cena, Seth Rollins and AEW rival, but no Undertaker

WWE star AJ Styles has stepped into the ring with some of the best wrestlers of all time during his illustrious career.
But the Phenomenal One have managed to narrow down their list of favorite opponents to just five and there are several absentees.

The most notable is undoubtedly Undertaker, whom Styles faced in Deadman’s last match at WrestleMania 36.
The Boneyard cinematic match was a show stealer in 2020 and the positive reception it received proved to be the catalyst behind Taker finally hanging up his boots.
Fast forward three years and Styles will face Seth Rollins at Night of Champions this weekend in a bid to be crowned the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
And it’s a match Styles relishes for a number of reasons, with the Architect being one of his five favorite opponents on the ropes.

During an exclusive interview with talkSPORT’s TalkWRESTLING podcastStyles said: “Seth Rollins is excellent, there’s no doubt about it.
“John Cena is one of the guys I love being in the ring with.
“Samoa Joe is another – amazing talent, but I guarantee you throw me in there with Christopher Daniels, we’re going to tear down the house too.
“So that leaves one more and there are several guys you can’t go wrong with – Rey Mysterio is definitely one of those guys.
“I look at Rey and I’m like, ‘I want to be like that guy! I want to do what he does,’ because he started wrestling at such a young age that you don’t realize he doesn’t. He’s only a few years older than me, but he was one of those guys who pioneered Lucha Libre but brought it to the American style and made it all work.
“He is definitely one of a kind!”

Cena, a 16-time world champion, has moved to Hollywood in recent years, but has been involved in several Match of the Year contenders with Styles after the latter joined WWE.
The pair were often seen as polar opposites during their rise to the top, with Cena the face and voice of WWE and Styles the most famous in-ring contender among independents.
Styles had wrestled for TNA for a 12-year span from 2002 to 2014 where his best match was arguably a triple threat with Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe at Unbreakable in 2005.
