World Bank president says he won’t step down, apologizes for remarks on climate science

“When asked, ‘Are you a climate denier?’ I should have said no,” Malpass said, later adding, “That was a bad line, I regret that, because we as an organization use science every day.

None of the World Bank’s 187 member countries have asked him to step down, Malpass said, and shareholders expressed “strong support, for me, at the World Bank,” he told Heath.

Malpass also said he would “absolutely” accept training from climatologists to improve his knowledge of the science behind climate change.

“That wasn’t a good phrase for me to use,” Malpass reiterated. “We have a lot of input from our global scientific community.”
