Wordle #486 Puzzle Tips, Tricks, and Answers Tuesday, October 18

Can you believe it’s been a year since Josh Wardle, a software developer from New York, first published wordle to the public? We’re not sure we can, but in 2022 every day feels like a minor era.

Despite everything going on in the world, one constant this year has been the enduring popularity of wordle.

The simplicity of the game is a big part of its appeal. Each day, the player must guess a five-letter word, in six attempts or less. After each prediction, the letters light up, indicating the accuracy of the guess. If a letter turns green, it’s both in the word and in the right place. Yellow means that the letter appears, but was placed in the wrong place, while gray means that it is not in the word at all.

The Wordle pun airs on a cellphone on January 12, 2022 in Houston, Texas. Newsweek has some tips and tricks to help you solve the final puzzle.

Talk to Newsweek in January, Wardle advised players to experiment with different strategies.

He said: “I’m reluctant to tell anyone how they should play. I would encourage people to experiment with different ideas and come up with their own. [starting] words, rather than just sticking to the same tried and true tactics over and over.”

Later that month, wordle was sold to The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure fee, though it remains free to play.

A number of other online games including Quordle, Worldle and Dordleemerged last year, inspired at least in part by the success of wordle.
