Why even lifelong Republican Liz Cheney can’t get away with opposing Donald Trump | American News

She comes from one of America’s most famous Republican families. His electoral record on abortion and firearms was exemplary.
And none of that stopped Liz Cheney from becoming Donald Trump’s latest and most famous Republican victim.
She lost her congressional seat in Wyoming to a rival backed by Mr Trump, an opponent who repeated the former president’s lie that the 2020 election was stolen.
Voters could not forgive Ms. Cheney for leading congressional investigations into Mr. Trump’s role in the January 6 assault on Capitol Hill and his vote to impeach him.
But she doesn’t give up without a fight. The battle for democracy in America is only beginning to spark speculation that he will run for president in 2024 to keep Trump out of the White House.
The magnitude of Cheney’s defeat shows just how much of a hold he has on the party. This may also prompt him to soon announce his candidacy for 2024.

Cheney’s defiance of defeat increases speculation that she may even run as an independent in 2024 to split the Republican vote.
One commentator compared her to Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars and his fierce battle with Darth Vader.
“If you bring me down,” said the Jedi to his nemesis, “I shall become more powerful than you can imagine.”
Ms. Cheney was defeated in this election, but her struggle with Mr. Trump could see her rise again and block her path to the presidency.
