“Why does Antonio Conte get a free pass?” Tottenham boss ‘underperforming’ as talk of ‘miracle’ top four slammed as ‘rubbish’ by ex-Arsenal man
Tottenham fans shouldn’t pass up manager Antonio Conte with his defeatist rhetoric branded as ‘rubbish’.
That’s according to former Arsenal player Adrian Clarke, who believes the Italian is as much to blame as chairman Daniel Levy for the club’s current situation.
A lackluster performance in a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa saw Spurs lack creativity and forward thrust, but fans turned on the club’s owners and players rather than the manager.
Cries of ‘Daniel Levy, get out of our club’ rang out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while right-back Emerson Royal was booed on the pitch as Spurs’ terrible form, which sees them drop out of the top four, has keep on going.
But Clarke believes the fans, who are mostly still behind the former Chelsea and Juventus boss, should also criticize the Italian given the situation they find themselves in.
He told talkSPORT: “Why is Antonio Conte getting a free pass right now? That’s the question I would ask. All the Spurs fans are hammering Daniel Levy and the board and whatnot, but he has to watch himself tactically.
“Seven games in a row they’ve conceded at least two Premier League goals – it’s shocking.
“It must be said that the organization of the team was not as good as it should have been.

“Hugo Lloris constantly makes mistakes but [Conte] didn’t really make any decisions about [his future.]
“Creatively they have problems. The team has lacked a creative player for years, probably since Christian Eriksen left the club.
“It all depended a lot on Kane and Son, and more recently on Kulusevski. With Kulusevski out of the last game, they really had nothing up their sleeves.
“There are issues for Spurs. I don’t think they are good enough off the ball to get into the top four at the moment.
“Conte is a smart manager, he has a great CV but he will have to show all those coaching credentials by the end of the season to get them into the top four.
“All this talk about Tottenham needing a miracle is rubbish, isn’t it? Their team is capable of getting into the top four. That’s what they achieved last season.
“They’re underperforming and Conte should raise his hand and say that’s the case, ‘we’re underperforming, myself included’.”
