The Nation’s Elie Mystal was once again on Saturday during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Cross Connection.”
Mystal reacted to an interview former President Donald Trump had with radio host Hugh Hewitt earlier in the week, warning of the reaction if he were to be charged.
However, Mystal said that’s how “white people” react when they don’t get their way in America.
“Let’s start here, OK, let’s start with the problem of the fourth estate, the American media,” he said. “Listen to that clip again – Hugh Hewitt made himself look like Billy Bush in that clip, didn’t he? “What kind of problems, Mr. President?” He’s threatening to unleash domestic terrorism on the country if he’s held accountable for a crime, and you, a journalist, are sitting there saying, “What kind of trouble could we have?” What is that? What is that? At some point, the Fourth Estate will have to realize its complicity in allowing these white domestic terrorists to organize and achieve some level of legitimacy as they threaten our democracy.
“I want to file this because that’s a big part of the problem,” Mystal continued. “The cause of the problem, of course, is Trump himself and his MAGA cronies themselves and the people who are willing to do violence in Trump’s name. Again, I mean I’m not surprised he’s threatening this because a – he literally does it before, and b – this is literally what conservative white people do when they don’t get what they want. They became violent. As a black man in this country, as a person aware of black history in the new world, white people become violent when they are not successful politically all the time in this country. That’s what they do. And from the perspective of a black person, welcome to the world I lived in America, threatening to transform violence against non-black people.
