North Korea reports first COVID outbreak, orders lockdown as ‘most serious emergency’
SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea reported its first outbreak of COVID-19 on Thursday, calling it “the most serious national emergency” and ordering a nationwide lockdown, with state media saying a variant of Omicron had been detected in the capital, Pyongyang. North Korea had never confirmed a COVID infection before Thursday, although South Korean and US officials said there may have been earlier cases in the isolated country, given its trade and his travels with China before closing his border to block the virus in early 2020.” The most serious emergency in the state occurred: a rupture appeared in our emergency epidemic prevention front which had been strongly defended so far,” the official KCNA news agency said.
