what now awaits the deputy RN

Jacques Serais, edited by Romain Rouillard

This Thursday, the session of questions to the government was suspended in the hemicycle after an RN deputy declaimed “that he return to Africa”, during the speech of an elected LFI, of African origin. . Despite the explanations provided by the principal concerned, sanctions could be pronounced against him.

A few words were enough to trigger a monster mess in the National Assembly. This Thursday, while LFI deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo challenged the government on the rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea, an RN deputy issued a “Let him return to Africa” which caused amazement in the hemicycle , the suspension of the session of questions to the government and a torrent of reactions.

The elected official in question, Grégoire de Fournas, then defended himself by maintaining that he was not addressing his counterpart Carlos Martens Bilongo directly, of Congolese and Angolan origin, but that he was speaking in the plural in targeting migrant boats. Not enough to prevent the initiation of a procedure to rule on this incident. A decision that will have to be taken by the office of the National Assembly, convened this Friday at 2:30 p.m. by Yaël Braun-Pivet, the president of the hemicycle.

Salary deduction, temporary exclusion

This bureau is made up of the President of the Assembly, the six vice-presidents, the three quaestors and the 12 secretaries. Positions distributed proportionally according to the results of the last legislative elections. The members of this office will therefore have to decide on the facts themselves before working on the follow-up to be given.

For the time being, two types of sanctions are mentioned for this deputy of the RN. He could first undergo a simple censorship with the suspension for one month of half of his parliamentary allowance, or approximately 2,900 euros. A sanction which could also be accompanied by a temporary exclusion of the elected official who would then be prohibited from going to and working at the Palais Bourbon for 15 days. Provisions included in the rules of the Assembly.

The only certainty: if the Renaissance elected officials, members of this office, come to an agreement on Friday with those of the Nupes, a majority will emerge to sanction Grégoire de Fournas. The group of the presidential majority has already made it known that it will not sit before a heavy sanction against this deputy.
