“Well, that really clears things up”

The recently released affidavit from the Department of Justice (DOJ) requesting the search warrant for the FBI raid on former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home is heavily redacted, and photos of the lines blacked out on the document circulating on social networks, generating mockery.

According to the affidavit, the DOJ apparently determined that the classified information was improperly stored and that there may be more at Trump’s Florida residence, basing that assessment on a review of 15 boxes that the former president voluntarily surrendered to the federal government.

“The FBI investigation has established that documents bearing classification marks, which appear to contain National Defense Information (NDI), were among the materials contained in FIFTEEN BOXES and were stored at the PREMISES in an undisclosed location. authorized,” the affidavit states, explaining that the federal government was concerned that the documents were disorganized:

[A] preliminary examination of the FIFTEEN BOXES indicated that they contained “newspapers, magazines, printed news articles, photos, miscellaneous printed matter, notes, presidential correspondence, personal and post-presidential files, and “a lot of classified documents”. [sic] recordings.’ The most significant concern was that highly classified documents were unclassified, mixed with other documents, and otherwise misclassified. [sic] identified.”

However, much of the document is redacted, remaining sealed “to protect the safety of several civilian witnesses”. The “five categories” of information cited as reasons did not include national security, as reported by Breitbart News. The document reads in part:

The categories, described in more detail below, are (1) information from a wide range of civilian witnesses who may be “intimidated or retaliated against,” FROM 80 to 9; (2) information regarding investigative avenues and techniques that could provide a roadmap for potential means of impeding the investigation, id. at 9-10; (3) information the disclosure of which is prohibited under Rule 6(e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure (“Rule 6(e)”), such as grand jury subpoenas, testimony, and related documents, id. at 10; (4) information the disclosure of which could endanger the safety of law enforcement, id. at 9 o’clock; and (5) information the disclosure of which could harm the “legitimate privacy interests” of third parties.

Images of the redactions took off on social media.

“Well, that really clears things up,” Donald Trump Jr. said, posting an image of the redacted document as others did the same:

“Heavily Redacted Affidavit!!!” Trump exclaimed in a TruthSocial article.

“Nothing is mentioned about ‘Nuclear’, a total public relations subterfuge by the FBI and DOJ, or our close working relationship regarding the turnover of documents – WE GAVE THEM A LOT. Judge Bruce Reinhart n NEVER should have allowed the burglary of my house,” he said.

“He recused himself two months ago from one of my cases due to his animosity and his hatred of your favorite president, me. What changed? Why didn’t he recuse himself on this case? Obama must be very proud of himself right now! Trump added, posting later, “WITCH HUNT!!!”
