Weekend rain timeline if you’re traveling across the state

If you’re planning to travel this weekend before Thanksgiving, here’s what you need to know about the expected rainy weather in California. Lake Tahoe Area There is a chance of scattered rain showers Friday in the Lake Tahoe area, but not until late afternoon. Temperatures will peak in the 50s at lake level. More persistent showers will develop Friday evening, falling mainly as rain over mountain passes. It will be a little cooler Saturday in the Sierra, but snow levels will remain above 7,000 feet, limiting the possibility of chain checks during the day. Some minor accumulating snow is possible Saturday evening. There may be enough accumulation on the roads for brief chain checks on I-80 and Highway 50. Things will clear up nicely Sunday morning with just a few lingering snow showers. No travel issues are expected during the second half of the weekend or next week. Shasta Cascade Area Expect a few showers north in Shasta on Friday. The heaviest rain will fall Saturday with temperatures falling into the upper 40s before clearing out Sunday. Expect rain to slow travel on I-5. San Francisco Bay Area The Bay Area can expect showers but also thunderstorms Friday and Saturday along the coast. If you are traveling to San Francisco, Santa Cruz or Monterey, be prepared for unstable weather. Sunday will be dry. Southern California Friday will be pleasant in SoCal with a high of 75 degrees. Isolated showers are possible Friday evening. Impacts on travel should be minimal. More widespread showers are expected on Saturday. There will be breaks between showers, but expect wet surfaces on highways. Dry conditions return Sunday and last through Thanksgiving. Are you staying in the Sacramento area?
