We voted for mediocrity, and this is what we get

A year ago we were all exhausted. We were all tired of the tyrannical White House autocrat, his clumsy team of racists, and his infuriating brood of supporters. We were tired of watching The Real WhiteHousewives of DC. light and disinfectant “inside” the body to clean our lungs like picnic tables.
We went to the polls on election day because the house was on fire and we just wanted to get out. Because of the year we had, America got Joe Biden, an imperfect candidate. And yes, while I called his administration a Weekend at Biden’s, who among us hasn’t made a “Biden is barely alive” joke once or three times. After 2020, we were ready to vote for a homeless broom, a frog, or anyone who doesn’t dye their hair and skin the color of sunburn.
And while Biden is nowhere near the same rank as The Stench Left Behind, I think we all have to collectively acknowledge that Biden refined the situation and in doing so sold America a bogus bill of goods on at least one major problem: the cancellation of the student loan.
I think it was the German philosopher Immanuel Kant who wrote it down, and I’m paraphrasing here: “Debt forgiveness is essential to homeownership and a strong economy, as student loans continue to stumble. .
And you know who knew that? Biden. In March 2020, he tweeted that we need to write off $ 10,000 per person in student loan debt.
What he’s done since is act like Congress is the reason he can’t budge. I know this game well. This is what I do with my 4 year old son as he struggles with his popsicle addiction. I act like, if it’s up to me, he’s swimming in popsicles – but unfortunately my hands are tied because “Mum said no”. I am used to giving in to my son’s requests.
Do you know who else gave in too? Biden. In August, he extended the student loan break by six months. But now, well, “Mum said no.” Come on January 31, it’s over. The ruthless student loan machine has been restarted. Student loans have been on hold since March 2020, and the Biden administration – you know the supposed good ones – is the one insisting on restarting it. The President literally refuses to watch what goes on outside of restarting the endless money dump that is loan repayments.
Currently the coronavirus has gone to look for its big sister to beat us up, inflation does what inflation does, and the Grinch is working hard to dirty the docks to ruin Christmas!
And did I mention that no one wants this? But don’t listen to me, listen to it from a magazine that actually deals with money issues, Forbes:
In a letter to Biden, the Student Borrower Protection Center, a nonprofit student loan advocacy organization, joined 200 organizations (including the ACLU, NAACP, and the American Federation of Teachers) to urge Biden to postpone the restart federal student loan payments.
And while I know these senators are progressive (which is a bad word in congressional circles), Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) And Rep. Alexandria Ocasio -Cortez (DN. Y.) have practically begged the president to extend the student loan repayment if he doesn’t want to reduce student loan debt. Again, from Forbes:
Senators say resuming student loan payments will cause significant financial stress in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically, they cite a study by the Roosevelt Institute which shows that failing to defer student loan payments beyond January 31, 2022 will cost student loan borrowers $ 85 billion. They argue that 9 million defaulting student loan borrowers could be subject to payday garnishment and other methods of debt collection if student loan payments resume. In addition to severely damaging the economy, senators note that black and Latin households would face a disproportionate burden of resuming student loan repayments.
Blacks and Latinxes are twice as likely to default on their loans, and that was long before the coronavirus. And it’s not because blacks and Latinos are irresponsible, it’s because they are poor in college, and people poor in college are more likely to take out loans to pay for their education and find it more difficult to repay them when they enter the labor market.
According to a study by Consumer Financial Protection Bureau), “More than 90 percent of African American students and 72 percent of Latino students take out loans to attend college, compared to 66 percent of white students.”
We would be here all day if I delved into systematic racism and how that prevents blacks and browns from getting high paying jobs even though they are as skilled as their white counterparts. This means parents earn less money and therefore there is less money to save for their children for college, which means black and brown students are borrowing money at a higher rate. .
But Biden is on a mission, and apparently that mission is to fuck us all. The machine is the machine, and it must restart at all costs, even if it means jostling all those it has promised not to do. Because it’s politics, and anything goes in politics. He reneged on all his student loan promises so much that Michael Jackson’s ghost is jealous.
Biden could write off $ 10,000 in student loan debt per person in a jiffy, and that’s not hyperbole. He could sign an executive order making it that way, but instead he punters because he’s an old-school Democrat who still thinks he needs to appeal to Republicans. He has not yet realized that it is Jets vs. sharks and “When you are a Jet; you reduce student loan debt ”or whatever the song says.
Note: I don’t know who runs the student loan program, but this machine is still busy. With the exception of Bed Bath & Beyond, no one is more in my inbox than the student loans department to remind me that in February my student loan payment is due. Please pass my information on to those responsible for the Student Loans email if I go missing, as they won’t stop until I am found.
Biden had the opportunity to raise the bar by pushing a Democratic agenda down the throats of those same politicians who secretly backed the insurgents on Jan.6.
the the president talks about kicking everybody’s ass but never does, and now those student loans are about to hit ours.
