Congress, which has been at odds with the Center over price hikes and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) hike, today staged a mass protest against the price hike, unemployment and higher GST on essentials.
The opposition party has also demanded a discussion in both houses of parliament on these issues. Congress MPs have staged protests inside and outside parliament during the ongoing monsoon session over these issues.
The party marched to the Rashtrapati Bhawan and Congress MPs were arrested in the attempt. It also comes in the context of recent raids by the Law Enforcement Branch at the Herald House and 12 other locations in connection with the National Herald money laundering case.

“Congress chose this day to protest and wore black clothes because they wanted to give a subtle message to further promote their policy of appeasement because on this very day Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation for Ram Janambhoomi … Congress should be responsible and must cooperate in accordance with the law. #335 protesters, including 65 MPs detained: Delhi police
Congress supporters staged a protest in Delhi today. Orders under Section 144 CrPC are also in force in Delhi. The demonstrators tried to prevent the police officers from carrying out their duties, manhandled and injured them. Appropriate legal action is underway. As many as 335 protesters, including 65 MPs, were arrested under Delhi Police Act 65 to maintain public order in the area.
