Warriors’ Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are fed up with Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks

Dillon Brooks helped fuel the Memphis Grizzlies’ victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, but the Warriors were in no mood to entertain his effort either way.

At the end of the Grizzlies’ 133-119 win at FedExForum, Klay Thompson was fed up with Brooks yelling “you suck” from the Grizzlies bench. So Thompson counted four fingers to Brooks and the Grizzlies bench.

It indicated the four championships he had won and was a similar gesture he made to Suns All-Star Devin Booker earlier this season. But Thompson didn’t stop there, firing Brooks after the game.

“I don’t care about Dillon Brooks,” Thompson told The Commercial Appeal. “When he retires, I don’t think anyone will ever talk about Dillon Brooks again. I promise you that. It’s nice right now, but wait 10 years.”

Brooks took Thompson’s gestures in stride as competitive banter. In a hoarse voice, he praised what the Warriors have done over the past 10 years and said the Grizzlies use it as fuel.

“He’s got four rings. That’s all he was saying. That’s motivation for us,” Brooks said. “We also want a ring. Being able to go through the process of the steps we took last year, we’re continuing and learning from all of this. It’s friendly talk, but I just own a lot of real estate there in San Francis.”

The two teams split their regular season streak, with the home team winning each of the four games.

Stephen Curry wouldn’t discuss Brooks individually, but singled out the Grizzlies’ collective effort. Both teams played the second straight night, but the Grizzlies made it 18-3 to the Warriors’ 13.

Curry shot 5 for 15 with 16 points, while Brooks had 18 points and 4 for 4 on 3-point range.

“We played all the Memphis Grizzlies, not just him,” Curry said when asked if Brooks was keeping him.

The teams met last season in the playoffs, with the Warriors winning six games in the semifinals. When the teams met on Christmas Day, Thompson committed a technical foul after yelling at Brooks as he ran downhill.

On March 9, Curry and Draymond Green then dismissed the Grizzlies as rivals after the Grizzlies won at FedExForum. The Grizzlies, however, still see the Warriors as something to aim for. There’s a chance the two teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs, so time will tell if things continue for a second straight postseason.
