Video shows Brittney Griner being told on plane she’s going home

Video released by Russian state media shows WNBA star Brittney Griner learning on a plane that she is returning to the United States after being released from a month’s imprisonment in Russia.

In the video, an interview using a translator asks Griner what his mood is.

“Happy,” Griner replies.

“Do you know where you are going? asks the interviewer.

“No,” Griner said. “I do not know.”

“You’re flying home,” says the interviewer.

” In the USA ? Griner asks.

“In the United States,” the person replies. “Everything will be alright.”

President Joe Biden announced Thursday that Griner was safely on a plane home. The two-time Olympic gold medalist was freed in a prisoner swap for international arms dealer Viktor Bout.

A video released by Russian state media shows the prisoner swap taking place on the tarmac of Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi.

The Phoenix Mercury star was arrested in February at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport after police said they found vaping cartridges containing cannabis oil in his luggage. Griner admitted she had the canisters, but said she packed them by accident in her rush to take flight and had no criminal intent. His defense team presented evidence that he was prescribed cannabis to treat chronic pain.
