On June 25, 1977, the very first Pride march was held in France. It is the MLF women’s liberation movement and the GLH homosexual liberation group that are at the origin of this initiative.
“If, together, we don’t organize ourselves to speak loudly, nothing will happen”
The first one “homosexual demonstration“organized in France took place on June 25, 1977 in Paris. It was launched by the MLF, Women’s Liberation Movement and the GLH, Homosexual Liberation Group.
In the 1970s, the WHO still considered homosexuality as “mental disorder”. With this march, LGBTQ+ people hope to be heard and obtain more rights.
“We want the government to ask now for the creation of a joint committee, so that the anti-homosexual law, which is a last vestige of Nazi oppression, is finally abolished”explains Hervé Liffran of the Emergency Committee against homosexual repression.
