USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter says England manager Gareth Southgate hasn’t read his recent WhatsApp messages.
The duo were in regular contact via WhatsApp, but the level of communication understandably declined ahead of their Group B clash on Friday.
After beating Iran 6-2 in their World Cup opener, the Three Lions are keen to go two-for-two with a victory over the Americans.
“I sent it on WhatsApp but didn’t see the blue tick so I don’t know what’s going on,” Berhalter said in his pre-match press conference.
“We kind of took a break. We will resume our relationship the day after tomorrow.
England are favorites to win the group, while Berhalter’s side were expected to finish second.
USA drew 1-1 against Wales in their opener, with Timothy Weah scoring for the Star and Stripes.
Berhalter supported Weah and the rest of his team, believing they have what it takes to beat anyone.

“I believe on our best day, we can beat anyone in the world, anyone,” he said.
“It’s a great honor to play in the World Cup, but we don’t just want to be participants. We want to perform.
“We think the first step is to get out of the group. And the second step is, in the knockout games, to play our best game possible and see how far we can go.
Although he didn’t receive a response to his messages, the American boss heaped praise on Southgate ahead of the game at Al Bayt Stadium.
‘[The US media] gives me a hard time from time to time but I don’t think it’s of the magnitude that Gareth has but we all know this is a results driven business and we are all held accountable for the results on the ground,” he added.
“I think he’s done a great job. I’ve been saying for a year and a half that his record at major tournaments is outstanding.
“He did a great job with his team. They got off to a good start and they are a formidable opponent. It will be a tough game for us. »
