Undisputed lightweight clash between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko ‘basically done’, says Bob Arum

Devin Haney will put his undisputed world lightweight titles on the line in 2023 in a super fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko.

The 24-year-old American fighter both won and defended the titles against George Kambosos Jr in Australia last October.

Meanwhile, Lomachenko took some time off after his loss to Teofimo Lopez and then again when the war in Ukraine started as he returned to his home country.

Since then, however, the former pound-for-pound king of boxing has won three straight and he’s looked as sharp as ever, making a fight with Haney hugely appealing.

Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, recently told talkSPORT that the pair have “committed to the fight” and now he has provided a new update.

“This fight is basically done,” Arum told Sky Sports.

“We are researching the site and date and that will be announced shortly.

“I had lunch with Bill Haney, Devin’s dad, and Devin joined us and they’re all ready. They are lovely people.

“This fight will take place before or just after Ramadan, because Devin is a religious Muslim and therefore we cannot do it during Ramadan but we could do it before or after. So I discussed all this with the Haneys.

Haney and Lomachenko have met once before, after the Ukrainian’s last win against Jamaine Ortiz at Madison Square Garden in New York.

After the fight Haney joined Lomachenko in the ring and the size difference between them was immediately noticeable.

“Is it lightweight? No, he’s a heavyweight,” Lomachenko joked, with Haney responding, “In the ring, I’ll show you.
