Sadio Mane enjoys life as Liverpool’s main man.
The Senegalese star has been in sensational form in 2022 after starting the year by scoring a penalty to win the Africa Cup of Nations.
Since his return to Merseyside and the subsequent arrival of Luis Diaz, Mane has flourished as a central point in Liverpool’s attack.
Mane scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night to keep the Reds’ Premier League title hopes alive.
And the striker could prove to be the man to keep the club’s four-time bid on track by sending Liverpool back to FA Cup glory this weekend.
“We talked about it in the dressing room,” Mane told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I asked the boys, ‘When was the last time Liverpool won it?’ I think that was a long time ago, not just the players, I think all the fans around the world are very excited to win again.
“Years ago we won the Premier League, the Champions League, so winning the FA Cup will be huge for us, for everyone at the club as well as for the fans.”
Mane scored a brace on his last trip to Wembley in the semi-finals and now faces his favorite opponent Chelsea.
Since joining Anfield, he has scored six goals against the Blues – with no player having scored more against them in that time.
Two of them have even played in a final before, with Mane netting a brace in Liverpool’s Super Cup win over Chelsea in 2019.
He also used Chelsea to end the worst goal drought of his Liverpool career ahead of their Premier League meeting in January.
Before the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, Mane hadn’t found the net in nine appearances, but then appeared to put his side ahead nine minutes later!
The 30-year-old doesn’t have such confidence issues this time around after enjoying the form of his life.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher wrote in The Telegraph: “I may not be able to observe as many world-class strikers as I did in my prime, but in the case of Mane an exception can be made.
“Any club trying to lure him from Anfield this summer would face a blockade. Mane is my favorite Liverpool player from the Jurgen Klopp era – often underrated and underrated.
“Since January, the tendency to overlook him when Mohamed Salah was getting all the attention has changed slightly.
“If Mane continues in his current form, he could help Liverpool win four trophies, including the FA Cup against Chelsea this weekend. He will also be the most likely winner of the 2022 Ballon d’Or in the Premier League. »
