UFC legend Daniel Cormier claims Colby Covington is still dealing with ‘serious injuries’ from Jorge Masvidal’s attack after ‘Chaos’ won £2m poker tournament

Daniel Cormier has revealed Colby Covington is still recovering from ‘severe injuries’ he suffered after Jorge Masvidal allegedly attacked him earlier this year.

The welterweight duo fought back in March with Covington earning a lopsided decision victory over his former friend and teammate at UFC 272.

Covington and Masvidal’s rivalry didn’t end when they fought at UFC 272

Two weeks later, Masvidal was arrested for attacking Covington at a steakhouse in Miami and it was reported that ‘Gamebred’ snuck up on his rival to punch him twice in the face.

Covington suffered a broken tooth and damage to his $90,000 Rolex watch. As a result, Covington filed charges against his bitter rival who was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, bodily harm and criminal mischief.

After months of unusual silence, Covington recently found himself in the news after reaching the final table of Seminole Hard Rock Casino’s $400 Deep Stack No-Limit Hold’em event.

The UFC star eventually finished seventh in the tournament which the casino said had over 7,700 entries and a prize pool of over $2.5m (£2m).

For his efforts, Covington walked away with $48,298 (£40,000) which will certainly come in handy as he is unlikely to fight again this year as he is still recovering from the injuries he suffered a few months ago. .

“Colby Covington faces serious injuries after being brutally attacked in the street by Jorge Masvidal,” Cormier said on the latest episode of DC&RC.

The former two-weight champion thinks Covington is doing the right thing by keeping a low profile while getting paid in the process.

He added: “Colby Covington needs to stay out of the public eye and do exactly what he does, while making money. Hats off to Covington.

“To be attacked in this way, viciously, it would be difficult to come back and do anything else. Colby Covington is doing what he should be doing, chilling out, playing cards and making some money.

We should soon learn more about the future of Covington and Masvidal whose preliminary hearing and trial are scheduled for later this month.
