UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall says Tyson Fury would taunt sparring partners as they tried to ‘take him out’ and thinks ‘The Gypsy King’ beats Francis Ngannou ‘every time’ on a boxing ring

Although Tyson Fury is a dangerous man in the ring, we’ve seen the light side of “The Gypsy King” many times in press conferences and interviews.

Apparently, he’s no different in the gym, according to UFC sixth-ranked heavyweight Tom Aspinall, who trained at Camp Fury.

Aspinall (second from left) was part of the Fury side when he beat Wladimir Klitschko to become the unified world heavyweight champion in 2015

“[Fury] having fun in the gym,” Aspinall told talkSPORT. “There will be guys in sparring trying to take him out and he used to laugh and joke during that.

“I saw a lot of guys working hard in the gym, but he was having fun with it. His whole family is like that. His dad John, his uncle Peter, his cousin Hughie, they all had the same mentality.

“It rubbed off on me. I think that’s where you saw the biggest change in me; when I stopped taking it so seriously and started liking it.

Aspinall trained at the Fury camp when he was in his early twenties for about two years, and he said he wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to replace MMA with boxing one day.

“I love boxing so I would never count that,” he added. “But I have so much to do in MMA right now and in the UFC.

“There are so many things I want to do later in life, but right now my goal is to tear the heavyweight division apart.”

Aspinall is on a five-fight UFC winning streak, with all of his fights having ended remotely

Aspinall also spoke about a potential crossover clash between WBC Fury heavyweight champion and the man who holds the UFC heavyweight crown, Francis Ngannou.

“Ngannou has more chances if they have smaller gloves, but he still faces that.” said Aspinal.

“If they can kick, it’s going to be tough for Tyson. But if it’s closer to boxing rules, Tyson is going to win every time.

Both Fury and Ngannou have said they want to fight, but the Cameroonian is under contract with the UFC until the end of the year, so the clash could not take place until 2023 at the earliest.
