UEFA slammed for ‘horrendous organisation’ after ‘blaming Liverpool fans’ for delayed Champions League final amid chaotic scenes outside Stade de France

UEFA have been criticized for their “awful organisation” after the Champions League final was postponed as Liverpool fans struggled to gain access to the Stade de France.

Liverpool and Real Madrid were preparing to face off for the biggest prize in European football, but the occasion was overshadowed by chaotic scenes outside the stadium for Reds fans.

Fans were informed 14 minutes before the start of the game

UEFA issued a statement via the stadium’s AP 14 minutes before the game kicked off, which read: “Due to the late arrival of the fans at the stadium, the match has been delayed.”

The match was pushed back to 8:15 p.m., then again to 8:30 p.m., before finally starting at 8:36 p.m. as fans had more time to enter the stadium.

There were large patches of empty seats as the original kick-off time came and went, with long queues forming due to an obvious lack of organisation.

At least one gate was locked outside the ground – Gate Y, which was the main one for the Liverpool end.

Fans were seen leaning against the fence yelling at people to fix the situation and let them in. Riot police were present with tear gas.

Kelly Cates – the daughter of Liverpool great Sir Kenny Dalglish – posted: “Absolutely chaotic at the Stade de France.

UEFA will be criticized after the Champions League final

“No way in, no way of knowing where to go. Stay safe if you head inside. It can be very dangerous.

Former Liverpool CEO Peter Moore took to social media to respond to UEFA’s statement, criticizing the “horrendous organisation” of the event.

Taking to Twitter, Moore said: “Shameful scenes outside the stadium.

“’Late arrival of supporters’ should read ‘terrible organisation’.

“The fans have been here for hours.

“Stadium operations unable to manage flows and access. Victim blaming at its best…”

talkSPORT host Adrian Durham also slammed UEFA for blaming fans, describing it as “a dangerous message”.

He said: “It’s quite an important message to get it wrong, it’s dangerous.

“It’s a damning allegation because the allegation is that due to the late arrival of the fans, the match was delayed.

“The allegation is that it’s the fans’ fault. It’s not the authorities, it’s not UEFA, it’s not the police, it’s the fans.

“It’s still hitting the fans with a big stick, like you always do.

“It’s not the fans. From what we understand, it can’t take more than two hours from arrival at the stadium to entry.

“It’s not the late arrival of the fans, it’s mismanagement.”
