Malaysian authorities were looking for four Europeans, including two Britons, who disappeared during a diving course off a southern island on Thursday.
The divers are a 46-year-old Briton, a 14-year-old Briton, an 18-year-old Frenchwoman and a 35-year-old Norwegian.
Malaysia’s maritime law enforcement agency said the four people went missing while diving on an island nine nautical miles (16.5 km) off the southern coastal town of Mersing. the state of Johor.
The search began immediately after the tourists disappeared on Wednesday afternoon before being halted for the night due to poor visibility. The search resumed early Thursday.
Malaysia reopened its borders to foreigners on April 1 after they were closed for more than two years during the Covid-19 pandemic. Malaysia’s immigration department said more than 55,000 foreigners entered the country in the first four days since the border opened.
