A 12-year-old girl has died after being assaulted in Liverpool city center following an altercation.
A murder investigation has been opened following the death of Ava White. She was killed while out with friends Thursday night during the annual Christmas tree lights on Church Street.
Four men – one 13, two 14 and one 15, all from Liverpool’s Toxteth district – have been arrested on suspicion of murder, Merseyside police said.
Officers were called around 8:39 p.m. to report an assault.
Upon arrival, they discovered that Ava had collapsed to the ground and that a member of the public who had witnessed the incident was providing first aid. Paramedics responded and Ava was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where she died shortly after.
In a statement, Merseyside Police said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm that a 12-year-old girl, Ava White, has died following an incident in Liverpool city center on last night.”
Deputy Chief Constable Jon Roy said, “Our thoughts and condolences are with Ava’s family, who are supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers. Their world has been torn apart and no parent should ever have to face the police knocking on the door to say their child has passed away.
“We believe that Ava and her friends were involved in a verbal argument which resulted in Ava’s assault causing catastrophic injuries. And we understand that the offenders were then seen running down School Lane crossing Hanover Street. and Fleet Street.
He said the four men were being questioned at Merseyside police stations.
He added: ‘Liverpool city center was very busy at the time of the incident as the Church Street Christmas tree lights had been officially on shortly before and we would appeal to anyone in attendance. were on Church Street and saw the incident. , or maybe even captured it on their cell phone, to come forward.
