About 20 minutes into the 2016 presidential campaign, it was pretty clear that the American media was horribly addicted to Donald Trump. They hated Trump, obviously, but they also needed Trump to live. And that’s the face of addiction. If you’ve ever seen a person wince when swallowing hot vodka before breakfast with shaking hands, you know what it looks like.
So there was really no doubt about what would happen for sure when news agencies were ultimately cut off from their vital daily supply of Donald Trump. They’re going to collapse in a pile, and that’s exactly what they did. They collapsed.
On Tuesday, for example, not a single show on CNN – once the world’s largest cable news channel – “This Is CNN” – Not a single show on the entire channel reached even 800,000 viewers. . It’s really low. Chris Cuomo had better do some free concerts in the park, which he might be doing soon. So with the departure of Trump, the old formula no longer works. It’s easy to understand. What is more confusing, more difficult to understand, is how they reacted to this fact. So let’s say you’ve made billions of dollars over the years selling Rice Krispies treats to a hungry audience. Dentists might have complained about what you were doing, but for you it was always a good deal, and you thought it would last forever because we always believe that all that is good will go on forever. But this is not the case.
Over time, consumers began to understand that a cereal coated marshmallow for breakfast was not a very healthy food option. It’s good at first, eat enough and it starts to make you sick. So they started to buy less of what you were selling. Following this?
CHRIS CUOMO AVOID MENTIONING BROTHER SEXUAL CRIME CHARGE ON CNN SHOW
How would you react to that? Well if you were smart you would probably change your name. You change the color, you add vitamin additives, you rename the product, you can call it “crunchy kale treats” or “nutrition bars for healthy living”. You would have understood that people don’t want sugary trash. They want something good for them, so you would sell it to them. It seems like a pretty rational choice.
What you probably wouldn’t do if you were selling Rice Krispies treats to a rapidly declining market is convince yourself that we are not in the snack business, but rather on some kind of mission from God. You wouldn’t claim that eating marshmallows is a vital moral imperative. You wouldn’t attack your own consumers for preferring something else. You wouldn’t denounce them as morons or racists because they eat less sugar. You won’t try to ban the Atkins diet or make Keto illegal. It would be crazy, you would be bankrupt if you did that.
And yet, this is exactly what the mainstream media has decided to do in the face of extinction. They amplified moral outrage, they raised self-satisfaction to 11. And above all, they claimed that nothing had changed and that Donald J. Trump was still roaming the horizon like a great orange colossus threatening the world. the very existence of this fragile nation. We are not exaggerating. Here is a recent sample of cable media coverage in this country, and keep in mind that each of these clips was recorded this week.
BRIANNA KEILAR: Election officials increasingly fear for their lives as Donald Trump continues his big lie.
POPPY HARLOW: President Trump continues to spread lies about the election, the election results across the country.
DON LEMON: Where would we be today if Trump’s White House was just listening to science?
BILL KRISTOL: Trump wants to overturn the next election, he wants to overthrow the last one he wants to do. He wants to limit the vote and overturn state-level elections.
JEFFREY TOOBIN: Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy denounced the insurgency, denounced Donald Trump
WOLF BLITZER: President Trump has found a surprising new platform to spread the big lie.
MOLLY JONG-FAST: I mean, the thing with Trump is that Trump is always bad for democracy.
ERIN BURNETT: It has metastasized far beyond President Trump, from multiple sources. I hear you there. However, the original cancer was President Trump.
What a spectacle of monsters. No wonder no one is watching who would watch this? but listen to what they say. Trump wants to overturn the next election, yells the chubby dwarf. They all do. OK, I understand.
But the point is, Donald Trump is no longer the President of the United States. He is currently playing golf in Florida. Good for him. How about covering up what’s going on in America right now trying to change? Perhaps you could explain it to us or even tell us about it? Nope. They refuse. And they refuse because they are taken at an earlier age. They cannot adapt to a new reality. It’s depressing when you think about it, it’s gonna be all of us someday. It is certainly very sad for them.
Just a few years ago, hosting a Sunday TV show was considered a big deal, especially in Washington. Now nobody cares. It does not matter. Imagine if you are the host of one of these shows. Chuck Todd doesn’t have to imagine he is the host of one of these shows. He’s spent his whole life trying to get this job, only to find once he gets it, that it’s not worth having. No wonder he seems so bitter and fragile. Here it is at the start of the year:
SEN. RON JOHNSON: It started when the mainstream media abandoned any pretense of impartiality and actually took sides in this election. This fire was started when you completely ignored, for example, our investigation of Hunter Biden. No evidence of wrongdoing there and now we’re finding out after the election, no there’s a fair amount of evidence to the point that we have a real FBI investigation.
CHUCK TODD: Senator, okay, I’m tired of hearing this.
SEN. RON JOHNSON: Look, I’ve had enough of this too. It’s the saddest thing that it creates a situation where Republicans and Conservatives don’t trust the mainstream media. And that’s what it is, what destroys the credibility of the media and our institutions and really destroys of confidence in institutions.
Senator, I have had enough. Chuck Todd can’t even stand hearing someone criticize the American media. No one has to do it now. Calm down, Chuck. No one cares what you think anymore, your moral authority is long gone with your relevance, you are screaming into the void. They all are. Deep down, Chuck Todd knows it. They all know it. But rather than accepting the truth about themselves and their careers, rather than changing their behavior or learning new skills – that would be nice – or gracefully retiring to Cabo, again, this concerns us all. , they won’t.
MSNBC’S CHUCK TODD AND NYT’S KARA SWISHER COMPLAIN ABOUT FACEBOOK’S IMPACT ON MEDIA: IT “RUINS OUR BUSINESS”
They have one last hope to keep the scam alive and its censorship. So the dying media companies have convinced themselves that somehow they can get the government and their friends in the tech monopolies to shut down their competitors. Maybe they can continue. Maybe they will become big and lucrative businesses again. Maybe we can go back to 2003, when people delayed their rounds of golf to watch Meet the Press. Wouldn’t that be great? This is their goal. Illusioned as he is.

And that explains why all of a sudden journalists, everyone, are leading the charge against the First Amendment that you thought made their job possible. This tells you exactly why they hate Fox News so obsessively and Substack too. This is the key to their campaign against what they call disinformation. Now, if you’re a literal-minded person – we sure are – you laugh every time you hear them say that. Disinformation? Aren’t they exactly the same people who told us that Putin got Trump elected? The ones you swore a high school kid from Kentucky was in the Klan? Yes, the same people.
So of course they are not against disinformation. Obviously the point is that they want to reestablish their monopoly on this, and that is what they are trying to do.
