“Savage criminals are being released on cashless bail to continue their violent rampages against the United States of America,” Trump said. “Entire communities are being torn apart by stabbings, gunshots, strangulations, rapes and murders.”
The former president blamed elected Democrats in urban America for the rise in crime.
“The streets of our Democratic-run cities are drenched in the blood of innocent victims,” Trump said. “Shooting rages between bloodthirsty street gangs, bullets tear through random crowds, wonderful, beautiful little children who never stood a chance.”

Trump also said lawlessness on the US-Mexico border played a role in the rising crime rate.
“The Republican Party must campaign on a clear promise that if it gets power, it will fight with everything it has to close the border,” he said.
The comments were made during the presentation of a CPAC keynote. Much of the speech focused on the political dysfunction visible under Democratic Party rule in Washington.

The remarks came shortly after CPAC released its straw poll showing Trump as the overwhelming frontrunner for the 2024 GOP nomination among the conservative base. Trump garnered almost 70% of the votes cast at the conference, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis comes far behind at 23.7%.
