Trump faces more pressure for calling six-week abortion ban ‘terrible thing’ as big names pile in

Former President Donald Trump is facing increased scrutiny for calling Florida’s six-week abortion ban a “terrible thing,” and other big names are joining the chorus of those calling it condemn.
“Protecting innocent lives is never a ‘terrible thing.’ I am proud of the fetal heartbeat bill that the Iowa Legislature passed and which I signed in 2018 and again earlier this year ” the Iowa Republican said. Governor Kim Reynolds wrote in a Wednesday article on X.
She was joined soon after by Georgia’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp, who wrote in his own X-post: “There is nothing ‘terrible’ about defending life.” In addition to passing the Heartbeat Bill, Georgia has proudly protected and valued life by implementing adoption and foster care reforms, and the fight (sic) against human trafficking humans – and I will continue to do so as long as I am governor.
Trump blasted online after attack on Desantis’ abortion ban: ‘a terrible thing’
Trump made the comments during an interview on MSNBC’s “Meet the Press” over the weekend, as he was pressed to highlight his stance on abortion. In his response, he said he would work with Democrats to pass abortion legislation before attacking Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ support for the six-week ban, officially called Heartbeat Protection Act.
“I mean, ‘DeSanctus’ (DeSantis) is willing to sign a five- and six-week ban,” Trump said. “I think what he did was a terrible thing and a terrible mistake.”
The comments sparked widespread backlash from conservatives, who took to social media to criticize the former president and question his comments given his previously expressed pro-life positions.

DeSantis also weighed in, warning pro-life voters that Trump would “betray you” following the comments.
“Every time he made a deal with the Democrats, whether it was on the budget, whether it was on the criminal justice First Step Act, they ended up taking him to the cleaners, and so, I think that if he gets into this, he’s “It’s going to make the Democrats happy when it comes to the right to life. I think all pro-lifers should know that he is preparing to betray you,” DeSantis said.
