Former President Donald Trump spent Thanksgiving night on Truth Social, accusing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of conducting a witch hunt against him for his actions around January 6, 2021. .
Trump has been the subject of a myriad of investigations over the past few months. At the culmination of the January 6 committee hearings, Trump was ordered to turn over documents related to his activities regarding the U.S. Capitol insurrection, to which he responded by suing the committee. He is also under investigation by the DOJ regarding classified documents discovered during the search of his home in Mar-a-Lago. New York Attorney General Letitia James also accused Trump and his real estate company of fraud.
The slew of investigations isn’t slowing down the former president, who recently announced his campaign for the 2024 presidential race.
In a Truth Social article Thursday night, Trump wrote that he “did nothing wrong on Jan. 6.” calling the attack on the nation’s Capitol peaceful and patriotic.
As of January 6, 2021, Insider reported that more than 950 people have been charged with crimes during the siege. CNN reported that five people died in the pro-Trump riot that erupted as Congress moved to certify Democrat Joe Biden as the next president. Many rioters believed the election had been stolen.
Truth Social’s post was loaded with other information. Trump also called an investigation into his actions a “rigged scam”, calling the DOJ and FBI “corrupt”. Agencies raided Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida in August. According to CNN reports, more than 300 unique classified documents were found at the station.
“The so-called investigation of me by a radical left prosecutor, who is totally controlled by Eric Holder and Obama, is a rigged scam. DOJ and FBI are CORRUPTED, in fact offered $1,000,000 to Christopher Steele for lying, told Facebook that Hunter’s laptop was Russian disinformation when they knew it wasn’t, and paid people to “get Trump”. ‘did nothing wrong on Jan. 6 (peacefully and patriotically), or with documents (check out former presidents),’ read the Truth Social post in full.
The post received nearly 6,500 likes at press time. Trump followed up the post with a much shorter message, “WITCH HUNT!!!”, which received 3,800 likes within 30 minutes of posting.
