Trump ’caused murderous rage’ in insurgency crowd, says former justice official

A former Justice Department official said on Saturday that Donald Trump ‘incited murderous rage’ in the crowd that stormed the Capitol during last year’s uprising and risked the lives of the former Vice President Mike Pence.

The crowd was ready to “tear Pence apart member by member,” former assistant deputy attorney general Harry Litman noted on MSNBC on Saturday. It was “as dark as it gets,” added Litman, who called it “set up” by Trump.

Litman angrily responded to a chilling video of Trump supporters on Jan. 6, 2021, in which “Pence just gave in” can be heard, before adding that “we’re going to be dragging motherfuckers through the streets.”

Trump already knew then that Pence would help Trump’s efforts to cancel the 2020 election, Litman noted. Yet he still targeted Pence in his speech to supporters before they entered the Capitol building.

“Trump comes out to the crowd and pretends…it’s all up to Pence,” Litman pointed out. “He knows Pence has already decided, but keeping it open like this is designed to incite murderous rage in the crowd when they find out,” Litman added.

Once Trump supporters discovered that Pence was not going to reject electoral votes cast for Joe Biden in key states, the crowd became “absolutely fired up,” he continued.

“We have testimony … that it was no joke,” Litman said, referring to hearings by the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection. “They were ready to tear it up [Pence] member by member. So Trump is playing this dishonestly in a way to get the mob up to its maximum level of violence. Really sinister,” he added.
