More than 150,000 employees within the SNCF must ensure the departure of 15,000 trains per day, which transport more than one billion passengers per year. A hundred trades are offered at all levels, with key training.
“The SNCF recruits thousands of employees in all professions, from high school and even before. Drivers, controllers, air conditioning engineers, boilermakers, maintenance of trains, tracks and catenaries monitored by surveillance drones, reception and sales professions, etc… We have recruited more than 4,000 people this year .” says Christophe Fanichet, president of SNCF Voyageurs.
Trains without wheels are electromagnetically suspended like the Maglev in Shanghai, the Hyperloop project or the TransPod. Which should circulate within five to six years.
“These are vehicles that are the size of a train carriage or a bus, and travel in a tube where most of the air has been removed. This makes it possible to reach, in theory, speeds close to those of sound.” according to Sebastien Gendron the co-founder of Transpod.
And since we are talking about flying, the aerotrain, developed by the French engineer Jean Bertin, was supported on a cushion of air, and propelled by a propeller. He had thus reached the speed of 430 km/h, in 1974, 15 years before the TGV. This project allows not to cut the territories, because the trains run on guides or tubes suspended from pylons, thus letting the fauna and flora pass. Similar to the Supraways concept, which aims to run shuttles above urban roads and highways. “The idea of circulating autonomous vehicles suspended from guiding infrastructures above major roads will allow autonomous vehicles to avoid all disturbances on the ground, and people who are below to avoid all danger. ” Claude Escala, founder of Supraways.
As futuristic projects, passengers could even make a connection by passing from one train to another, while these would roll side by side. Another project would be that of a train “which never stops” because it “drops” a shuttle installed on its roof, when passing through a station. to pick up another on the way.
The possibility of boarding a train, in town, which would be none other than an airplane fuselage, which, after having rolled to the airport, could cling under a carrier plane, is still being studied. In other words, a Paris – New York from city center to city center, without ever leaving your seat! All these projects require high-level engineers. Beautiful jobs in perspective!
