Time is running out for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is said to have three games to save his job after being criticized for last week’s embarrassing 5-0 home loss to rivals Liverpool. But it won’t be easier on Matchday 10 at Tottenham Hotspur, who are one point clear in the Premier League table.
Manchester United are winless in four Premier League games (0-3-1) and the Red Devils are looking to avoid losing three consecutive league games for the first time since 2015. Their defensive play has been questionable (a clean sheet in 13 appearances in all competitions this season) and their attack lacked cohesive moves, relying instead on a moment of individual brilliance from Cristiano Ronaldo.
But Ronaldo has failed to score in four consecutive Premier League appearances and the last time he failed to score in five consecutive league games was in the 2008-09 season. Tottenham star striker Harry Kane is also in a funk league with one goal and one assist in eight Premier League games and these came in the same game. With the league’s third-worst goalscoring record (nine goals scored), it’s no surprise that Spurs have lost four of nine league games so far.

There is a lot at stake in this 7th vs 8th game. The winner will return to the race for fourth place, giving them direct access to the lucrative UEFA Champions League. The loser will see his already weak Premier League title hopes fade further. In Solskjaer’s case, defeat would begin to seal what appears to be an inevitable fate.
Sporting News will follow the game live, providing scores updates, commentary and highlights as they occur.
