Tom Brady’s regular-season struggles against the Saints continued Sunday when the Buccaneers lost 36-27 in Week 8 to their divisional rival.

The 44-year-old quarterback posted a nice line of stats, completing 28 of 40 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns. However, he also threw two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown with less than a minute and a half to go. This gave the Saints a nine-point lead and sealed the loss for Tampa Bay.

Brady blamed himself after the game for the interception and explained that he read the game badly.

“I think I just threw it at the wrong guy,” Brady said after the game, according to USA TODAY. “I had Mike [Evans] open. It cost us the game.

The interception was the last of Brady’s three turnovers against the Saints. It marked a season high for him, and he noted that his poor ball safety played a big part in the loss.

“It’s hard to win when you return the ball like we did,” Brady said. “So I must not throw interceptions. This is the key.

Bruce Arians agreed with Brady’s assessment of his performance. He thought Brady had “telegraphed” his end-game pitch, and that served as a microcosm of the Bucs’ performance on Sunday.

“I thought it was an embarrassing football display,” Arians said. “Of all the things we’ve talked about coming here about what it takes to win and to play like this, it starts with me. Obviously we weren’t ready to play, penalties, turnovers, you don’t beat anybody that way.

“Sean [Payton] did a hell of a job bringing back [Trevor] siemien; and, did a hell of a job winning the match. And, we didn’t do the parts.

The Buccaneers fell to 6-2 after their loss and now have the Saints 5-2 up their necks in the NFC South Division race. They will face each other again in Week 15 when Brady looks to secure his first regular season victory over the Saints as a member of the Bucs. He led Tampa Bay to a victory over New Orleans in last season’s playoffs.
