Happy Thanksgiving! We are honored that you have taken a moment away from your families to let Newsweek help you with the latest wordle puzzle.
wordle was first released to the public by creator Josh Wardle, a New York-based software developer, in October 2021. The game quickly became a viral sensation and was purchased by The New York Times in January 2022, although it remains free.
Talk to Newsweek in January, Wardle explained how he opted for five-letter words for his puzzle.
He said, “There’s a reason every word is five letters long and you get six guesses. It may seem arbitrary but, with the prototype version, I tested different word lengths and experimented with the number of tries that players were allowed.
“Through this process of refinement, I figured out that five letters and six essays was the sweet spot. It’s just limited enough to feel difficult and make you think, but most of the time people still manage to get it. solve. So you feel a real sense of real accomplishment.”
Talk to Newsweek, Dr Claire Childs, a senior lecturer in English at the University of York in the UK, explained what makes wordle so popular.
She said: “What contributes to wordleThe success of is its simplicity: the rules are simple and it takes relatively little time. The fact that there is a new puzzle every day adds to the novelty. Just as we like to discuss TV, movies or music with friends/family and on social media, we now like to share our good (or bad) results on wordle That day.”
The popularity of wordle helped inspire a number of other online puzzles, including Quordle, Nerdle and World.
