T

im Paine appears to have excluded himself from The Ashes after announcing an immediate hiatus from cricket “for the foreseeable future”.

He had returned to the injury game for Tasmania’s second team but on Friday it was revealed the 36-year-old will be retiring from the game.

He had previously been named to the Australian squad for the series against England, which begins on December 8.

In a statement, Cricket Tasmania said: “As a result of discussions over the past 24 hours, Tim Paine has informed Cricket Tasmania that he will be taking time off from all forms of cricket for the foreseeable future.

“Cricket Tasmania will continue to support Tim and his family both professionally and personally over the summer.”

His team had been scathing about the previous management of Cricket Australia over his resignation as captain of the national team just weeks away from the Ashes.

In a separate statement, Paine manager James Henderson raised concerns over the former Aussie captain.

“Confirming that Tim Paine is stepping away from cricket for an indefinite mental health break,” he wrote on Twitter. “We are extremely concerned for her and Bonnie’s well-being and will not be commenting further at this time.”
