One of my favorite summer staples is lip gloss. I tend to shy away from it in the colder, windier months because my hair ends up sticking to my lips, making it nearly impossible to really appreciate the look. But when the sun finally comes out and the temperatures are high, my beauty routine becomes a bit simpler with a lot less products, especially ones that feel lighter on my face.

As much as I love my Nyx Butter Lip Gloss, I wanted to branch out and explore more products that also provide subtle pigment to my two-toned lips, and find another holy grail nude lip gloss that suits my skin tone. The main issue I have with so-called “nude” lip glosses is that many of them aren’t nude at all and lean more towards peachy pink on my lips. This, of course, is part of the frustrations I have with the beauty industry’s imperfect “one-size-fits-all” trend, but it’s neither here nor there.

You can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across Tower28’s ShineOn Jelly Lip Gloss ($15). Tower28 is an Asian beauty brand that focuses on products for sensitive and acne-prone skin. I first saw someone using the gloss on TikTok and loved how it looked on the lips as we have similar skin tones. The shade she wore was “almond”, and it seemed to be very close to my lip tone, more buildable if I wanted a little more pigment. The almond color looks a bit like a milk chocolate shade which I think would pair well with brown skin.

When I tried the almond lip gloss for myself, I was pleasantly surprised that it went on like butter and had a slight vanilla scent that I don’t mind smelling all day. With any gloss, I like to line my lips with a brown lip liner first, but with this shade, I didn’t find it necessary. As soon as I put it on, I knew immediately that it would become a gloss that I use often, especially on no makeup or minimal makeup days when I still want to look a bit groomed.

As a proponent of confidence in the process, I decided to wear it overnight for over 4 hours and found that it was not sticky at all, did not come off my mask, and looked like more like a comfortable lip balm. than a gloss, which made me love it even more. My lips felt moisturized all the time thanks to the nourishing oils they contain, like raspberry oil and apricot kernel oil, and they stayed put for the most part, except for one. a little wear when I ate. It came to a point during the evening that I forgot I was even wearing it.

The lip gloss is also available in 10 other shades, including sheer pink, sheer, sheer raspberry, semi-sheer milky nude pink, semi-sheer milky rosy brown, sheer orange and more.
