They were the first to start the ball rolling within the group La République en Marche (LRM) at the National Assembly. Six months before the presidential election, a handful of former Macronist deputies, elected in 2017, found refuge in the campaign organization chart of the environmental candidate Yannick Jadot. After the dissolution of their Ecology Democracy Solidarity group in the Assembly in October 2020, these elected dissidents have definitively renounced the “at the same time” and confirmed their rallying to the environmentalist pole, at the time of the regional elections of June 2021.
Maine-et-Loire deputy Matthieu Orphelin, close to Nicolas Hulot, has become the chief spokesperson for Mr. Jadot’s campaign. A key role in the face-to-face meeting that the MEP wants to engage with Emmanuel Macron. The mathematician and former LRM deputy of Paris Cédric Villani is also a member of the political council of Mr. Jadot, as a support for the deputy of Deux-Sèvres Delphine Batho, who was a candidate in the first round of the primary of the ecologists. And its campaign manager is the former LRM deputy of the Rhône Hubert Julien-Laferrière.
Showing himself as one of Mr. Jadot’s early supporters, the French MP for Latin America and the Caribbean, Paula Forteza, will address issues related to citizenship and digital technology. Finally, two other rallies wish to play a role in social issues: the deputy of Val-d’Oise Aurélien Taché and the deputy of the Meuse Emilie Cariou, both at the head of the New Democrats party. They supported Eric Piolle in the first round of the green primary before rallying Mr. Jadot and plan to present candidates for the legislative elections of 2022 with Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV).
“In 2017, the messages of Emmanuel Macron’s campaign were the right ones, there was a real impetus at the start of the mandate. But frustrating citizens after raising such hope comes at a high price ”, declared Mme Forteza. Aurélien Taché explains, for his part, wanting “Put the package so that all those who believed in Macron in 2017 on this issue of emancipation do not vote for him again in 2022 and come to vote for Jadot”. His rallying has everything of a choice by elimination. “We are trying to bring the voice of this left-wing electorate whose values are anchored in humanism, progressivism, freedoms and the fight against discrimination which, today, could not return to the Socialist Party and which cannot not adhere to the economic and social program of La France insoumise ”, continues the member for Val-d’Oise.
