These are the only two mutual fund companies without exposure to HDFC Bank.

Only two mutual fund (MF) companies have no exposure to HDFC Bank shares in the entire sector. These include Quant MF and Samco MF. The move contrasts with the broader trend, where by the end of December, 539 mutual funds, both active and passive, invested a total of ₹2.17 lakh crore in HDFC Bank, according to a Moneycontrol report.

Quant, despite being exposed earlier, ruled out the title in August.

Sectoral apprehension towards certain banks is also evident, with Quant Mutual Fund sources indicating a reluctance to include HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank in their portfolios due to perceived underperformance.
Breaking down mutual fund exposure, 420 actively managed schemes account for ₹1.36 lakh crore of assets under management (AUM).
This exposure is partly attributed to HDFC Bank’s weighting, the highest in the Nifty 50 index among all stocks.

SBI Mutual Fund leads the pack, holding the largest investment at ₹62,416 crore, or 7.04% of its overall portfolio.

HDFC MF and UTI MF followed suit with ₹24,432 crore (4.19%) and ₹21,626 crore (7.64%) respectively.

However, some funds are proceeding cautiously, maintaining a more conservative exposure to HDFC Bank.

Examples include ICICI Prudential Balanced Advantage, Kotak Flexicap and HDFC Balanced Advantage, with exposure between 4-6% to the private sector lender.

HDFC Bank is currently facing turbulence.

Shares of the banking giant opened 0.20% higher at ₹1,393.40 on Tuesday, February 13, but recent trends indicate a tough time ahead for investors.

Over the last seven trading sessions, HDFC Bank stock has seen a decline of 3.8%.

The stock’s performance since January 16 reflects the impact of the results announcement.

The results reveal on January 16 led to a significant decline, which saw the stock hit its 52-week low of ₹1,382.40 on January 24, 2024.
