their daughters Margaux and Natacha testify, “we will finally be able to sit down and smile”

What is your reaction after the arrest of your parents’ alleged killer?
We are relieved. It is the beginning of mourning because we hope to now be able to obtain answers. Find out what really happened. We asked ourselves a thousand and one questions about our surroundings…
What is your reaction after the arrest of your parents’ alleged killer?
We are relieved. It is the beginning of mourning because we hope to now be able to obtain answers. Find out what really happened. We asked ourselves a thousand and one questions about those around us, in whom our trust had waned. This will now allow us to get closer to certain people. We will finally be able to sit down and smile. We are in euphoria. But above all we want to have answers to our questions. During the investigation, we delved into our parents’ past, sought to know how they lived and this devalued them.
You never gave up…
No, it was all hard to live with. We were a little lost and were about to ask a private detective. We thought we were never going to have answers. There, today, it feels strange, we are finally free, with more peace of mind.
The suspect indicted and imprisoned was one of your parents’ closest neighbors. This seems improbable…
Yes, it’s astonishing. We have never had a problem with the neighbors. It’s really weird. We made a thousand and one guesses but this one didn’t fit into the boxes. We could have imagined things for a long time but not that. We knew these neighbors but nothing more. Once, the suspect’s wife lost her dog, a Labrador, and our mother told her she had connections and could find him one. Which she did and she gave it to him.
Did you know their children better?
Margaux: yes, they were at college in Saint-Loubès with me. The eldest is my age (28 years old, Editor’s note). We took the bus together. That’s all.
What are you waiting for now?
To know why our parents were killed and for what motive. But we will never be able to understand why we kill someone. What we mainly told ourselves was that we couldn’t say goodbye to them. We had the impression that if we said goodbye to them, it was like abandoning them. All this weighed heavily on us, we no longer had hope.
