32:9 and Oled: a supreme Samsung Odyssey Oled G9

This screen is long, very long: it actually has a 32:9 format. It’s as if two 27-inch 16:9 format screens were stuck together. Enough to have only one screen in your gaming setup, but still have room to display numerous windows. Especially since it is not the definition that will limit you in their size: 5120 by 1440 pixels. Moreover, Windows 11 manages this type of screen very well and placing the windows is not more complicated. Also, the refresh rate can go up to 240 Hz, ideal for very competitive games: at this speed, the latency is only 3.4 ms.

The color coverage is very good, as is the color calibration and the average color temperature. The Samsung Odyssey Oled G9 is not made for cinema video editing, but for gaming, it is at its best. As for the maximum brightness, it is quite disappointing: only 400 cd/m² maximum, when others go up to 1000 cd/m².

Finally on connectivity, this Samsung model has an HDMI 2.1 port, a DisplayPort 1.4 port, a microHDMI and a USB hub with three USB-C ports. And to recharge your laptop, one of the USB-C ports supports charging up to 65 W. Due to the size of the screen, the connection is however difficult to access: note that you will need a large desk for this imposing screen.

Integrated cloud gaming and all SVoD services: it’s almost a real TV

In 16:9 format, that only makes it a 27-inch screen, but the Samsung Odyssey Oled G9 almost looks like a television. Already because its speakers are very good: 5 W and stereo. They are a very good backup solution when you are not wearing headphones or earphones. But it is above all a television thanks to the presence of the Tizen OS, the same one found on Samsung televisions. Everything is not finished well unfortunately (the system is rather slow), but it allows access to video streaming services like YouTube, Netflix, Disney+ or even Apple TV.

The other great strength of the Odyssey Oled G9 is that it allows access to cloud gaming applications, such as Nvidia GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming. Connect a controller via Bluetooth and off you go for gaming sessions without needing to start your machine. Also, we are entitled to wireless display via AirPlay for Macs, for Windows PCs and even Android with Google Cast compatibility. Additionally, the Odyssey Oled G9 supports the display of two 16:9 screens positioned side by side.
