The first file of the new government will be the anti-inflation law to protect the purchasing power of the French. Which means new expenses for the state. Lare measures promise to be many car with this law, which should be voted on at the beginning of the summer – provided that Emmanuel Macron has a majority in the Assembly – the government is planning several things. The tariff shield on gas will be extended until the end of the year (this represents more than six billion euros) and the rebate of 18 euro cents per liter of fuel will also be extended beyond the July 31, but we don’t know until when (a four-month extension would cost three billion euros). In the text, there will also be the abolition of the audiovisual license fee: that is to say three billion euros less for the State.

We must add to this the reindexing of pensions on inflation, from the month of July, without knowing where the cursor will be: 4%? 5%? According to experts, a revaluation point is 2.5 billion euros. It is also necessary to add to it the food check, the revaluation of the point of index of the civil servants, etc. We have no precise figures because all the decisions have not yet been taken, but it will be counted in several tens of billions of euros.

The government does not have much leeway in a context of zero growth, especially since he promises not to raise taxes and not to increase the debt. It is recalled that it is already at nearly 2,800 billion euros and that its burden promises to increase with the rise in interest rates. The government’s solution? Free up money by quickly reforming pensions and shifting the legal retirement age from 62 to 64. Elisabeth Borne says it, this is what should allow our country to ensure our social model. This pension reform is therefore not just intended to balance the system.

In the meantime, the government would like others to participate in the effort, in particular companies, that they put their hands in their pockets to improve the purchasing power of the French, by increasing wages or by distributing the famous bonus Macron without contributions or taxes, the ceiling of which will be increased to 6,000 euros annually – this will also be in the anti-inflation law. This is the message that Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy intends to convey to the representatives of the employers’ organizations that he receives on Monday May 23.
