The IAF begins enrollment in the Agnipath Recruitment Program from June 24; Check latest date, eligibility and more

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has invited applications from future Agniveers under the government’s latest Agnipath recruitment scheme. In a notification issued on June 20, 2022, the IAF invited online applications from interested applicants.

Entries will begin at 10 a.m. on June 24 and end at 5 p.m. on July 5, 2022. The IAF will only accept applications registered online, the notification says. Candidates can log on to to register.

After submitting the application form, all registered candidates will be required to appear for an exam which will take place from July 24, 2022, the notification said.


According to the notification, candidates applying under IAF Agnipath Vayu must be born between December 29, 1999 and June 29, 2005. The upper age limit at the date of registration is 23 years.

Applicants must have passed the Intermediate Examination (10+2) or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and English subjects and achieved a minimum of 50% marks in total to be eligible to apply for the position. Those who have not opted for the science board examinations in class 12 can also apply.

Those who have completed a three-year engineering course at a government-recognized polytechnic institute can also apply for the Agniveer Vayu. However, they must have 50% marks in total in the course.

Applicants who have completed a two-year vocational course with a non-vocational subject in the state education boards can also apply.

Agniveers will also need to meet medical criteria to be considered for the position.

The notification states that those shortlisted under the Agniveer Vayu program will be drafted into the Indian Air Force for a period of four years. Agniveer Vayu will form a separate rank in the IAF. At the end of four years of service, the IAF will select a few candidates according to the needs of the organization. Up to 25% of each specific batch of Agniveer Vayu would be entered into the regular IAF framework.

Earlier, the Indian Army on Monday issued a new notification regarding the recruitment of Agniveer. Registrations for the same will open from July.

Like the Indian Air Force, ‘Agniveers’ would form a separate rank in the Indian Army, which would be different from all other ranks in existence and the release of an ‘Agniveer’ at their own request before the completion of the terms of engagement is not permitted.

The military said the “Agniveers” would have no right to be selected after their four-year term ended, according to the report.

Since the government introduced the Agnipath scheme for military recruitments last week, violent protests have erupted in several parts of the country including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The youths protested saying their future was uncertain under the new scheme as it would employ soldiers for four years of service and release 75% of them after their term, retaining only 25%. Agniveers who are released from service after four years would be given preference for jobs in PSUs and the public sector, the government said.
