The legendary Tina Turner, long declared the “Queen of Rock ‘n Roll” for obvious reasons, died Wednesday at the age of 83. For decades, Turner has taken current fashion codes and taken them to the extreme.
During the 1970s, the decade that propelled her to global stardom, she championed the sexual revolution’s taste for barely there sets.
At the same time, Turner was reviving the glamor of Josephine Baker and the flappers of the Roaring Twenties with her fringed and sequined suits straight out of designer Bob Mackie’s mannequins.
Throughout the 1980s, Turner reinvented herself with a glam rock hairstyle that put the men of Guns and Roses to shame, a ripped denim jacket and skintight leather pants. She was doing reinvention long before Madonna embraced the concept.
