Tony Bellew is no fan of Peter McCabe, CEO of Headway, an organization that works with people who have suffered head injuries.
On a recent episode of Good Morning Britain, the debate over whether boxing brings discipline and ambition or simply encourages violence flared up, as promoter Eddie Hearn clashed with McCabe, who believes that boxing is extremely dangerous and should be banned.
“The perspective of progress is that boxing is a dangerous sport,” McCabe said. “If you read the report from the British medical association which has looked at this at length and medical associations around the world, they say boxing is extremely dangerous and should be banned.
“It irritates me this idea that the only way for working class boys to get along is to get into boxing, as someone who grew up in a social housing estate in one of the most deprived areas from the country.
“There are so many sports that teach discipline and encourage kids to train, work and have ambition and those sports don’t involve punching or hitting someone over the head.”
A few days later, former WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew couldn’t contain his rage when asked about Hearn’s trade with McCabe.
“The guy is aw*****, he has no idea about boxing,” he told IFL TV.

The 39-year-old credits sport with saving his life and believes he continues to do the same for many disgruntled youngsters across the country.
“This t**head is about the sport that saved so many lives, mine included and basically labeled us as barbarians, idiots and hard-hitting people,” Bellew added.
“He didn’t take into account the number of lives saved in amateur boxing gyms. Does he understand the number of children who have nowhere else to go?
“This clown talks about my sport like he knows it. Just go to a gym and experience ball sack first, then come back and tell me. Absolute idiot who doesn’t have a clue.
Bellew pointed out that many other sports can lead to serious brain damage and/or death, but no one is calling for them to be banned.
“Are we going to stop driving race cars? Is this what we’re going to stop next? Are we going to stop the NFL? Because just as many people end up with brain damage and death in their sport as they do in boxing, fucking idiot,” he said.
“Don’t disrespect my sport and slide it where you say when you don’t have a clue, what a fool, what a**.”
