Two days before the first round of the presidential election, the official electoral campaign comes to an end this Friday at midnight. Between the covid crisis and the war in Ukraine, some voters believe that this campaign has not lived up to their expectations. Report from Europe 1 in Strasbourg.
The result of the first round of the presidential election will soon be known. The official election campaign ends this Friday at midnight. It will have been very particular, because there will have been no debates project against project between the candidates. An election campaign that leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of voters. Report in Strasbourg from Europe 1.
“We did not talk about the real subjects”
Here, most people denounce a cut-rate election campaign, almost as if there hadn’t been one. “It came very quickly. In fact, we did not calculate anything between the corona and the war in Ukraine. The debates are really 0”, explains a man at the microphone of Europe 1.
“Away, the campaign. Why? Because the president declared himself at the last minute and neglected a certain number of channels and antennas. He does not debate with the eleven others”, delivers a man. “We did not talk about the real subjects, not enough at least”, details a passerby.
“I hope that abstention will not prevail”
And while several polls estimate that abstention could flirt with 30%, here passers-by are sure to vote on Sunday. “It’s a civic duty. You have to go and vote no matter what. Even if it rains or snows,” says a man.
“Personally, I’m not here for the first round, but I have established a power of attorney on behalf of my partner,” said a passerby. “I hope that abstention will not prevail”, adds another.
During the last presidential election, in Strasbourg, more than 78% of voters went to the polls for the first round.
