The CGT will not take part in the Nupes rally against climate inaction and the high cost of living

If the Nupes excluding PCF (France insubordinate with Europe Ecology-The Greens and the Socialist Party) wishes to organize a mobilization on October 16 “against the high cost of living and climate inaction”, the CGT will not be part of it.

“We have decided not to participate,” said CGT general secretary Philippe Martinez on LCI on September 22. “We consider that there is a need to succeed in today’s mobilizations [sur la santé] and 29 [journée intersyndicale pour les salaires]“, he continued.

“We want clear slogans,” he argued, referring to those put forward for the October 16 mobilization. “We need more offensive slogans. We are talking about salary increases,” he added.

La France insoumise, the PS, EELV and other left-wing organizations called for a “big march against high prices and climate inaction” in Paris on October 16, after intense negotiations that did not bring the most trade unions and communists.

The CGT leader had repeatedly expressed his reservations about such an initiative while the central trade union has notably planned since the summer a day of interprofessional strike, September 29.

“We accept support but we do not want to be dictated to a certain number of things by the political parties”, he reiterated on LCI.
