Three deputies from Harris County, Texas, who were Pull in an “ambush” early Saturday morning which left one of them dead, have been identified.
Agent Mark Herman announced the identities in a post shared on Facebook.
According to Herman, MP Kareem Atkins, 30, who had worked at Precinct 4 since January 2019, died of his gunshot wounds. “Deputy Atkins recently returned to work after paternity leave and leaves behind a wife and 6-month-old baby,” Herman wrote in the update.
Other MPs, including Darryl Garrett, 28, and Juqaim Barthen, 26, were also shot. Herman noted that Garrett “was shot in the back and underwent surgery and is in the intensive care unit at Hermann Hospital downtown.”
