A Texas doctor who misrepresented COVID-19 on his personal Twitter account has had his privileges suspended.

Ivermectin is a medicine generally used to treat parasitic infections in cattle such as horses. Bowden’s attorney, Steven Mitby, told CNN the doctor was not against vaccines but rather believed “people should have a choice.” Bowden is vaccinated, Mitby said, because the Houston Methodist demands that all doctors be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the Houston Methodist Hospital said Bowden used his account to “express his personal and political views on the COVID-19 vaccine and treatments.”

Bowden is the latest doctor to face discipline after violating COVID-19 guidelines which are supported by top health officials nationwide.

Last month, retired physician Sue McIntosh voluntarily relinquished her medical license after authorities learned she was giving patients blank and signed COVID-19 waivers. And in September, Steven Arthur LaTulippe had his medical license revoked after falsely describing carbon dioxide poisoning as a risk of wearing face masks.
