Taiwan earthquake: Tsunami warnings issued after 6.9 magnitude quake

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for Miyako Island in the East China Sea following the quake, which struck Yujing County in rural Taiwan and was 10 kilometers deep.

Photos showed collapsed buildings in southern Taiwan following the powerful earthquake. The USGS initially recorded it at 7.2, before downgrading it to 6.9.

About 20 passengers were evacuated after a train derailed in the area, but the incident caused no casualties, the Taiwan Railways Administration said.

It is a story of rupture. More details soon.
