Suspect killed after being taken hostage at Montana rest area

One person was killed and another injured on Saturday in an armed robbery and hostage situation that spanned two western states.
A male suspect on the run from Idaho rushed to a rest stop in Montana and grabbed a hostage when confronted by cops, Mineral County Deputy Sheriff Wayne Cashman said. at Montana Right Now.
The unidentified man pushed his hostage to the ground and fired two shots at their victim.
The police immediately returned fire, killing the suspect.
Cops tracked down the man after Idaho police alerted them to two fleeing armed robbers, authorities said.
The suspects – a man and a woman – had pulled off the heist with two others, cops said, but entered Big Sky Country alone.
A 911 caller reported seeing the couple abandon their car around 11:30 a.m. near a sewer in St. Regis, a community on the outskirts of Lolo National Forest.

The duo checked into a local hotel but then separated, the caller said. The woman stayed put while the man walked to the rest area on I90.
Police arrested the woman without incident.
Multiple agencies responded to the travel center, where the suspect desperately tried to evade capture.

The hostage was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
Mineral County sheriffs are still investigating the shooting and could not provide additional details to The Post.
