Intermarché has decided to no longer distribute Danone brands of mineral water, because the price is too high.

In the water section, some brands have become untraceable, removed from the shelves by the Intermarché brand. In a store near Paris, other products have replaced the Volvic, Evian and Badoit brands of the Danone group. “Danone represented about 35 to 40% of our linear, we prefer to stop waters which are extremely expensive and put waters which are competitive and which meet the purchasing power of our customers”, confides Valéry Nguyen, director of an Intermarché in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine). In the absence of a commercial agreement, the Intermarché group decided to no longer order this water from the manufacturer.

Result: there are fewer choices for customers. Contacted, the Danone group justifies the increase in its prices. “We are affected by inflation and more particularly by the rising cost of energy, transport and raw materials.“, the company said. “We saw this year Intermarché which has already gotten angry with Andros, Rana, the JDE cafes. Now it gets angry with someone else. Probably because today it is the one who accepts increases less easily more expensive than the others or who is better able to fight”explains Olivier Dauvers, retail expert.
